Another cold and wet day for many in the Glossop Glass and Glazing Derbyshire and Cheshire League saw abandonments, draws and declarations. The winds of winter are still truly blowing as we pray to the lord of light and warm weather, and although there were some big innings, we saw plenty of low scoring games.
Whaley Bridge v Dinting
Whaley Bridge elected to bowl reducing Dinting to 58-4 from 12.2 overs before the rain ended the match.
Dove Holes v Mottram
Mottram racked up 238-4 with A.Metcalfe giving the gift of runs to his side, scoring 119. Dove Holes innings was a stark contrast as they batted 32 overs ending on 44-3 to draw the match in a rain affected game.
Hayfield v New Mills
Unfortunately there was no play possible at Hayfield as the storms end the day.
Broadbottom v Woodley
Broadbottom reached 203-9 before declaring. A.Walsh scoring 35, M.Orpen 45 and J.Riley 42* with J Trowsdale taking 5-68. Woodley battled to 49/8 to draw with D.Perrin taking 4-20 and O.Cummings 3-9.
Hadfield v Buxworth
Buxworth won the toss electing to field. They saw Hadfield reach 191-6 with R.Tranter scoring 50 and G.Thompson 30 whilst B.Meij took 3-41. C. Reynolds made 42 in the chase, with R.Hirst taking 5-22 and it was Roberts rebellion that proved too much as Buxworth were bowled out for 103.
Hazel Grove v Tintwistle
Hazel Grove were put in to bat and were bowled out for 114. M Barnard made 35 whilst A.Brown took 4-26 and M.Robinson 4-28. Tintwistle’s opening pair made light work of the total, K.Handforth ending on 65* and K.Davies 44*.
Old Glossop v Birch Vale
Birch Vale were made to bat by their hosts and were bowled out for 102. J.Bannister made 40 and L.Kennedy 36, whilst P.Littlewood claimed 4-40 and J.Wright 3-18. Old Glossop banished the ghost of last weeks failed chase and knocked off the total for the loss of 4 wickets with J.Spencer claiming 3 of the OG scalps.
Newton v Stalybridge SP
Newton bucked the trend of the day and elected to bat first, ending 144 all out. G.Johnson made 30, and G.Finan 46 with N.Woodman taking 4-38. Stalybridge batted 31 overs with R.Wright’s 49 proving to be the wall helping his side to a draw. Despite C.Barnard taking 3-19 and M.Stringer 3-40, Newton could only restrict Stalybridge to 128-8.
Pott Shrigley v Charlesworth
Charlesworth’s decision to bowl was a profitable one as they bowled their hosts out for 39. G.Evans and E.Morley claiming 4 and 3 wickets respectively. Pott Shrigley managed to take 5 wickets before Charlesworth reached their target in 17.5 overs.
Chapel v Offerton
Offerton elected to bowl seeing Chapel make 150-8 in their 45 overs. J Jackson made 39 whilst J.Kirkham took 4-35. Offerton held on for a draw ending on 88-8 from 29 overs despite 3 wickets each from K.Hallam and J.Jackson.
Hollingworth v Newton
Hollingworth won the toss and elected to field, bowling out Newton for 103. J.Mercer made 36 whilst S.Morris and R.Gibson took 3 wickets each. Despite losing overs, the hosts knocked off the runs for the loss of only two wickets, M.Knight making 40.
Mottram v High Lane
High Lane were put in to bat by their hosts, ending 90 all out. S.Scott took 3-18 and H.Moore 4-23. Mottram reached their target for the loss of 5 wickets, J.Charlton claiming all five. M.Marsden ended 30* to see his side home.
Birch Vale v Old Glossop
Old Glossop were asked to bat by the Vale and ended on 23-0 from 8 overs before the heavens opened and prevented further play meaning both teams claimed the seven points.
New Mills v Hayfield
Hayfield elected to field, bowling their hosts out for 83 despite a spirited 46 not out from T.Boardman. New Mills couldn’t prevent Hayfield from winning, as they knocked off the total without losing a wicket.
Woodley v Broadbottom
Broadbottom elected to bowl seeing their hosts rack up 220-5. B.Qasim made 55, G.Picken 44 and A.Ahmed 68*, with C.Hurfurt taking 3-42. Broadbottom found themselves 66 all out in reply, P.Butterworth claiming 4-11 and T.Hotson 3-24
Tintwistle v Dove Holes
Tintwistle made 71 before being bowled out, K.Collins and K.Waterhouse taking 3 wickets each. Dove Holes reached their target for the loss of just two wickets with R.Hawkes seeing his side home ending on 34*
Charlesworth v Whaley Bridge
No play was possible at Charlesworth.
Offerton v Chapel
Offerton elected to bowl first, reducing Chapel to 159-9. N. Pearson made 51 and T.Emmett 46 while S.Ahmed claimed 4 wickets. Offerton had to bend the knee to the superior opposition as they were all out for 44 in reply, D.Bedworth doing the damage with 4 wickets.
Compstall v Hollingworth
Compstall were put in to bat ending on 139-5, J.Patel top scoring with 57. Hollingworth fell to 86 all out in reply as Compstall claimed the win.
Stalybridge v Hadfield
Stalybridge bowled first and saw Hadfield reach 238-9 thanks to an unbeaten century from J.Nicholson. M.Connolly and A.Hayat claimed 3 wickets each. Stalybridge ended 80 all out, Rick Ball claiming 6-8 to bowl his side to victory.
Buxworth v Pott Shrigley
Buxworth were put in to bat by Pott Shrigley, managing 119 al out. I.Walker made 50, while V.Allen took 4 wickets. Pott Shrigley knocked off the total for the loss of only one wicket, A.Tomlinson and J.William the masters of the chase ending with unbeaten half-centuries.
